Most patients require a traditional or full abdominoplasty that entails removing all or most of the skin and fat between the pubic hair and belly button and tightens the lax abdominal muscles underneath. The full tummy tuck improves the appearance of the entire abdomen, tightening the upper and lower belly while tapering the waistline. The scar from a full abdominoplasty generally extends from hip to hip, concealed beneath your underwear or bikini line. The exact length of the scar will vary from patient to patient.

For some people a partial or mini-tummy tuck may be all that is necessary to achieve the desired result. A small percentage of patients are good candidates for this procedure that reduces skin and excess fat just in the lower abdomen (below the belly button).
