Liposuction in Miami, Florida

Return to Florida Body Contouring Overview.

Liposuction Florida Liposuction, one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in Florida and the USA, is the surgical removal of excess fat from areas that are often resistant to diet and exercise, including the hips, thighs, abdomen and neck. Other common sites include the arms, knees, calves and ankles.

Liposuction is not a substitute for diet and exercise, but liposuction can remove those stubborn, protruding fat deposits unaffected by your weight-loss efforts. And if you are also troubled by excess skin and lax abdominal muscles, Dr. Ellenby may recommend a tummy tuck, often performed in combination with liposuction for his Miami patients.

Liposuction, also called "lipoplasty" or "suction lipectomy" in Florida, has been advanced and refined over the last few decades. Today's liposuction technology helps Dr. Ellenby deliver more precise results and quicker recovery times.

If you are considering a liposuction to enhance your appearance, this page will answer some of the most common questions we receive from our Florida patients. Of course we can't answer all of your questions online, so we encourage you to schedule your courtesy consultation with out office as soon as you are ready.

Am I good candidate for liposuction?

You are a good candidate for liposuction with Dr. Ellenby in Florida if:

  • you have realistic expectations
  • you are in relatively good health
  • you are bothered by localized pockets or areas of excess fat

Your age is not especially important, but older patients may not achieve the same results as a younger patient who have better skin elasticity. Liposuction carries greater risk for individuals with medical problems, or those who have recently had surgery near the area to be contoured.

Many people are still good candidates for a liposuction even when they don't fit neatly into one of the categories mentioned above. The best way to determine if the procedure will benefit you is to request your courtesy consultation with Dr. Ellenby at his plastic surgery practice in Aventura, Florida.

What should I expect from liposuction?

Expect firmer, flatter contours and just a few tiny scars. The difference in your contour and shape will be apparent after liposuction, and the results will continue to improve for four to six weeks as your swelling subsides. Liposuction can improve both your appearance and your self-confidence. Not every procedure delivers results that meet everyone's ideal, and before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and your motivations and discuss them fully and openly with Dr. Ellenby.

How is liposuction performed?

Dr. Ellenby will make tiny incisions in inconspicuous spots near the treatment area. Through the incisions he will insert a narrow tube (called a cannula) to remove the fat layer that lies deep beneath the skin. Moving the cannula through the fat layer breaks up the fat cells so they can be suctioned out. This process is repeated at each treatment site.

Before suctioning the fat, a fluid mixture of intravenous solution containing lidocaine (a local anesthetic) and epinephrine (a drug that contracts blood vessels) is injected into the treatment area to help with fat removal, reduce blood loss, and to numb the area during and after surgery. This technique also helps to reduce the amount of bruising after surgery.

General anesthesia is used during your liposuction procedure, and the procedure is performed at a certified and fully accredited outpatient surgical center.

Can I combine liposuction with other procedures?

Many patients can combine procedures such as tummy tuck, breast augmentation, and breast lift with their liposuction surgery.

Complete financial information, credit card payment options, financing programs, and determination of possible insurance coverage will be discussed during your courtesy consultation.
