Breast Lift in Miami, Florida
Most women find that time takes a toll on their breasts. Pregnancy, weight gain, nursing, and gravity can all play a part in causing the breasts to sag. But a surgical procedure called a mastopexy, or breast lift, can restore shape and firmness while lifting the sagging breasts. These same factors can cause the areola, the dark skin surrounding the nipple, to enlarge. While lifting the breast, Florida plastic surgeon Jay Ellenby can also correct the nipple and reduce the size of the areola. It is common for women with smaller breasts, or breasts that have lost volume, to combine breast lift and breast augmentation to completely reshape their breasts during a single procedure. If you are considering a breast lift to enhance your appearance, this page will answer some of the most common questions we receive from our Florida patients. Of course we can't answer all of your questions online, so we encourage you to schedule your courtesy consultation with our office just outside of Miami as soon as you wish. Am I good candidate for breast lift? You are a good candidate for breast lift with Dr. Ellenby in Florida if:
Women with average-size, sagging breasts can expect the best results. Women with larger, sagging breasts may need a breast reduction in combination with a breast lift. If you hope to become pregnant you may wish to postpone your breast lift. While there are no special risks that affect future pregnancies (for example, mastopexy usually doesn't interfere with breast-feeding), pregnancy is likely to stretch your breasts again and undo some of the benefits of breast lift surgery. Many people are still good candidates for breast lift even when they don't fit neatly into one of the categories mentioned above. The best way to determine if the procedure will benefit you is to request your courtesy consultation with Dr. Ellenby at his plastic surgery practice in Aventura, Florida. What should I expect from breast lift?Expect higher, firmer more shapely breasts following your procedure. Some patients can also expect a more pleasing and proportional areola shape after their surgery. Immediately after your surgery you may feel some pain or tenderness, but this subsides in a short time. You should be able to return to work in a few days, depending on the level of activity required for your job.Your breasts will probably be sensitive to direct stimulation for a few weeks, so you should avoid excessive physical contact. After that, breast contact is fine once your breasts are no longer sore. Dr. Ellenby will endeavor to make your surgical scars as inconspicuous as possible. Still, it's important to remember that mastopexy scars may be extensive and are permanent. They often remain raised and red for months, then gradually become less obvious, usually gradually fading to thin white lines. The good news is that the scars can usually be placed so that you can wear even low-cut, or halter tops. Breast lift can improve both your appearance and your self-confidence. Not every procedure delivers results that meet everyone's ideal, and before you decide to have surgery, think about your expectations and motivations and discuss them fully and openly with Dr. Ellenby. How is breast lift performed? All procedures are performed as an outpatient under general anesthesia in a fully accredited and certified outpatient surgery center, using only board-certified anesthesiologists. The breast lift procedure usually takes about one and a half hours. Dr. Ellenby will choose the technique appropriate for your situation, but most patients will benefit from an anchor-shaped incision following the natural contour of the breast. Dr. Ellenby will discuss the incision and the area from which breast skin will be removed, and demonstrate the new location for the nipple. When the excess skin has been removed, the nipple and areola are moved to the higher position. The skin surrounding the areola is then brought down and together to reshape and elevate the breast. Stitches are usually located around the areola, in a vertical line extending downwards from the nipple area, and along the lower crease of the breast. If you choose to receive breast implants with your breast lift you can learn more about that procedure on our breast augmentation page and in your discussion with Dr. Ellenby. Can I combine breast lift with other procedures? Many patients can combine procedures such as tummy tuck, liposuction, and breast augmentation with their breast lift surgery.Complete financial information, credit card payment options, financing programs, and determination of possible insurance coverage will be discussed during your courtesy consultation.
